What do bell pepper plants look like?

Bell peppers are ubiquitous on grocery store shelves, but if you’ve never seen one in person, you might be wondering what does a bell pepper plant look like? Well, here’s a picture:

Bell pepper plants are small and bushy and have dark green leaves with light green stems.

Most full grown bell pepper plants are around 3 feet tall.

Bell pepper colors

Bell pepper colors can be found in a variety of colors:

  • green
  • yellow
  • orange
  • red
  • purple

Interestingly, all bell peppers start out as white flowers before a little green pepper emerges. They stay green for most of their lives, ripening into their final color at the very end of their lifecycle.

Bell peppers share a lot of these characteristics with other peppers, or chiles, which is a great reason to start learning about entire plant families – you’ll start to see these patterns everywhere in the garden!
